closing and removal of older email account

Hello
I'm attempting to try and find any info or help in resolving the above mentioned title. My stepdaughter has an older email account (by older,I mean prior to windows live). Anyway she wishes to close and remove this older account for a couple if reasons #1 being it is old since she has had it since the 8th grade and #2 she has certain friends that she now doesn't want them emailing her for specific reasons ( I think she may have gotten threats from these people in the past ,etc). Anyway I've looked and cannot find info anywhere that could or would help me in this matter. I might also add that this particular account is not a subscription or is associated with any paid msn accounts either. Any help that you can give will be greatly appreciated
